NEK TS 606 is the Norwegian's marine and offshore industry technical specification (TS) covering a range of power, instrumentation and earth cables. P19 or P19/P21 RFOU 12/20KV Cable as one type of NEK606 offshore & marine cable, is used in fixed installations for control, instrumentation and telecommunication in both explosion and safe areas, in emergency and critical systems. The cable is also used for installations in areas exposed to mud and drilling or cleaning fluids.

P19 or P19/P21 RFOU 12/20KV Description

NEK TS 606 is the Norwegian’s marine and offshore industry technical specification (TS) covering a variety of power, instrumentation and earth cables that are halogen free and/or MUD resistant, protecting them against the sort of hydrocarbon-laden drilling liquid used in drilling operations in which can have an adverse effect on the cable sheathing material. According to NEK 606, the mud resistant cables shall have a SHF Mud sheath that comply with the needs in IEC 60092-359 for SHF2 and the below specified.

The NEK 606 cable standard technical specification has been widely adopted in Europe and internationally with BFOU and RFOU cables, and UX Earth cables in common use.

P19 or P19/P21 RFOU 12/20KV cables are flame retardant, low smoke, halogen free and mud resistant, used for fixed installation for medium voltage power.

Conductors : Circular tinned annealed stranded copper to IEC 60228 class 2.

Conductor Screen : Semi conducting material.

Insulation : Halogen-free EPR. XLPE can be offered as an option (for TFOU cable).

Insulation Screen : Semi conducting material and tinned copper wire braid.

Bedding : Halogen free compound.

Armour : Tinned copper wire braid.

Outer Sheath : Halogen free thermosetting compound, SHF2 (for TYPE P19), or halogen free mud resistant thermosetting compound, SHF MUD (for TYPE P19/P21),coloured red.

B: For halogen-free fire-resistant tape insulation around the conductor.
R: For halogen-free Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR).
T: For Cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE)
U: For halogen-free thermostat compound EVA or EMA used in insulation
F: For halogen-free inner covering
X: For no armor used
O: For tinned copper wire braid for armor
C: For galvanized steel wire braid
U: For halogen-free thermoset compound SHF 2 and mud-resistant thermoset compound SHF Mud for outer sheath.

P19 or P19/P21 RFOU 12/20KV Cable standards

IEC 60092-353: For offshore power and control cables 0.6/1kV.
IEC 60092-350: For power, control, and instrumentation cables for electrical installations on ships and offshore facilities.
IEC 60331: Test for power cables against the temperature of at least 830 C.
IEC 60332-1-2: Tests for power cables under fire conditions to check resistance against vertical flame propagation for a single insulated wire.
IEC 60032-3-22: For offshore cable’s performance against high temperature.
IEC 60754-1/2: Tests for the toxic gases produced during the combustion of these cables.
IEC 61034: Tests for the smoke density of burning cables.
