P1/P8 RFOU/TFOU as one type of NEK606 offshore & marine cable,is used in fixed installations for control, instrumentation and telecommunication in both explosion and safe areas, in emergency and critical systems. The cable is also used for installations in areas exposed to mud and drilling or cleaning fluids.

P1 or P1/P8 RFOU/TFOU 0.6/1KV Description

NEK TS 606 is the Norwegian’s marine and offshore industry technical specification (TS) covering a range of power, instrumentation and earth cables that are halogen free and/or MUD resistant, protecting them against the type of hydrocarbon-laden drilling liquid used in drilling operations which can have an adverse effect on the cable sheathing material. According to NEK 606, the mud resistant cables shall have a SHF Mud sheath that comply with the requirements in IEC 60092-359 for SHF2 and the below specified.

The NEK 606 cable standard technical specification has been widely adopted in Europe and internationally with BFOU and RFOU cables, and UX Earth cables in common use.

RFOU P1/P8 is used in fixed installations for control, instrumentation and telecommunication in both explosion and safe areas, in emergency and critical systems. The cable is also used for installations in areas exposed to mud and drilling or cleaning fluids.

Conductors : Tinned annealed stranded copper to IEC 60228 class 2.

Bedding : Halogen free compound.

Armour : Tinned copper wire braid.

Outer Sheath : Halogen free thermosetting compound, SHF2 (for TYPE P1). Halogen free, mud resistant thermosetting compound, SHF MUD (for TYPE P1/P8), coloured black.

P1/P8 RFOU/TFOU cable make sure that the offshore cables are mud-resistant, halogen-free alongside being fire-resistant or flame-retardant. Besides, these cables ensure that the offshore cables have SHF2 rated sheathing which is both thermosetting halogen-free and mud-resistant.

P1/P8 RFOU/TFOU Cable Code Meaning

B: halogen-free fire-resistant tape insulation around the conductor.
R: halogen-free Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR).
T: Cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE)
U: halogen-free thermostat compound EVA or EMA
F: halogen-free inner covering
X: no armor used
O: tinned copper wire braid for armor
C: galvanized steel wire braid
U: halogen-free thermoset compound SHF 2 or mud-resistant thermoset compound SHF Mud for outer sheath.
