The M24643/59 LSC5OS-4, LSC5OSW-4, LSC5FS-4 cable is a low-smoke, zero-halogen shipboard cable. It meets many compliances and is suitable for use in rigorous environments. This Mil-Spec cable features a solid bare copper conductor, Polyethylene (PE) insulation, and an LSZH Cross-Linked Polyolefin (XLPO) jacket. It also features an aluminum/polyester shield. This cable is suitable for use in shipboard combat systems, interior communications, and lighting and power applications that do not exceed 300V. The Mil-DTL-24643 Mil-Spec covers cables suitable for use in shipboard, communications, instrumentation, and electronic applications.

LSC5OS and LSC5OSW have the same construction as LSC5FS and LSC5FSW however, they have an additional metallic foil/polyester tape that faces outward and contacts the braid. The cable is then enclosed with a tin-coated copper shield and finally is jacketed with a cross-linked polyolefin jacket. LSC5OS is non-watertight and LSC5OSW is watertight. The cables operate within a temperature range of -20°C to +80°C. Non-watertight cables can be used within one or two continuous compartments, but are not permitted to penetrate bulkheads or watertight decks. Watertight cables can operate in a wide variety of situations, including through bulkheads and between decks. These Cat 5E cables are also referred to in the industry as Shielded FTP (Foil Twisted Pair) Cat 5E Cable.

LSZH jackets also emit low acid, gas, and toxicity when subjected to fire, maintaining circuit integrity
Metallic foil shielding protects data transmitted across network cables from being affected by electromagnetic or radio-frequency (EMI/RFI) interference, which could cause data loss or signal failure.
Braided shielding is heavier than metallic foil shielding and provides additional protection against EMI/RFI as well as protecting the cable in rugged environments. Braided shield also provides better grounding than metallic foil shields.
