Mil-Spec Military part number MIL-DTL-24643/49 has one cable-type designation: LSTNW. This shipboard telephone cable is rated at 1000 volts. Standard Identification Code by Method 1 or 3. M24643/49 LSTNW Shipboard Cable use thermoset insulation and have an outer cross-linked polyolefin jacket (XLPO). LSTNW cables are comprised of three conductors in thermoset insulation. The conductors are inserted into a cable around a central filler per section 3.4.4 of MIL-DTL-24643. The entire assembly is jacketed in cross-linked polyolefin (XLPO). This cable is ideal for use in shipboard combat systems, interior communications, and lighting and power applications that do not exceed 1000V. However, this cable shouldn’t be used where a watertight deck or bulkhead below flooding water level II (FWL-II) is penetrated. The Mil-DTL-24643 Mil-Spec covers cables suitable for use in shipboard, communications, instrumentation, and electronic applications.
In the cable designation for LSTNW, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable. T refers to three conductors, and NW refers to non-watertight.
