Mil-Spec Military part number MIL-DTL-24643/48 has one cable-type designation: LSDNW. This shipboard cable is rated at 1000 volts. Standard Identification Code by Method 1 or 3. M24643/48 LSDNW Shipboard Cable use thermoset insulation and have an outer cross-linked polyolefin jacket (XLPO). LSDNW cables are comprised of two conductors in thermoset insulation. The conductors are inserted into a cable around a central filler per section 3.4.4 of MIL-DTL-24643. The entire assembly is jacketed in cross-linked polyolefin (XLPO). The cord is non-watertight and has a non-flexing service. It operates within a temperature range of -20°C to +90°C. These cables can be used within one or two continuous compartments, but are not permitted to penetrate bulkheads or watertight decks.
In the cable designation for LSDNW, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable. D refers to two conductors, and NW refers to non-watertight.
