Mil-Spec Military part number MIL-DTL-24643/33 has one cable-type designation: LS2SWU. LS2SWU is a low-smoke, zero-halogen shipboard cable. Standard Identification Code by Method 2. M24643/33 LS2SWU Shipboard Cable use thermoset insulation and have an outer cross-linked polyolefin jacket (XLPO). All LS2SWU cables are comprised of twisted pairs insulated with two sealed polyester tapes using cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE) or one XLPE tape with extruded jacket, a copper braided shield, and is cabled consecutively with fillers and binder tape. The cord is watertight and has a non-flexing service. It operates within a temperature range of -20°C to +90°C. It is suitable for use in shipboard combat systems, interior communications, lighting, and power applications that do not exceed 600V. The Mil-DTL-24643 Mil-Spec covers cables suitable for use in shipboard, communications, instrumentation, and electronic applications.
In the cable designation for LS2SWU, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable. 2 refers to twisted pairs, S refers to shielded, W refers to watertight, and U refers to the fact that the cable is unarmored.
