Mil-Spec Military part number MIL-DTL-24643/3 is comprised of four cable-type designations: LSSHOF, LSDHOF, LSTHOF, and LSFHOF. All four cables can carry 300 volts and can be categorized by the Standard Identification Code using either Method 1 or 3. All M24643/3 Shipboard Cable use thermoset insulation and have an outer cross-linked polyolefin jacket (XLPO). LSSHOF cables have a single conductor and are heat and oil-resistant. LSDHOF has two conductors and is heat and oil-resistant. LSTHOF has three conductors and is heat and oil-resistant. LSFHOF has four conductors and is heat and oil-resistant. All cords within the MIL-DTL-24643 designation are non-watertight and offer flexing service. The cords are constructed with the required number of cables along with fillers and optional binder tape. LSSHOF in sizes 23 and larger also offers additional reinforcement.
In the cable designation for LSSHOF, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable. The third letter, “S” stands for a single conductor. HO refers to a cable that is heat and oil-resistant, and F refers to the flexing nature of the cord.
